Working with natural materials, and massive wood in particular, is my great predilection. My form language is sober and timeless. It is my daily occupation to "look for" serene, simple forms. I think it is important to apply visible constructions, which helps the furniture to provide the user with a restful, pleasant feeling in his or her living and working environment. Every piece of my furniture is made-to-measure by skilled furniture makers, in oak, elm, walnut, maple and cherry. The finish is natural oil and/or soap, maintaining the beautiful, pure appearance of the wood. I am a descendant of a large Frisian family with many brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts and cousins. I named all my furniture after them. My furniture is timeless, making each piece an "heirloom" thus making it fit in "time". Gjalt Pilat
